Tuesday, July 10: Itaipu Binacional Dam -- One of the Seven Man Made Wonders of the World
|
This picture is from the Itaipu Dam website |
Itaipu Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the
Paraná River located on the border between
Brazil and
Paraguay. The dam is the largest operating hydroelectric facility in terms of annual energy generation. We set our alarms for 5:30, got up, ate our breakfast, and walked to the bus station to catch a bus to the dam. We were told to be there at 7:00 am. When we arrived they told us our tour would start at 8:00 am -- so, we had a bit of a time to wait. The tour was excellent -- a very impressive engineering accomplishment and operation.
